Giving back: Donating our time to local man

Blog: Giving back: Donating our time to local man

“We’re a family and we believe in our community”

A year ago a woman contacted our office at Speedy Septic. She was a part of a group of neighbors who were raising money to build a home for a local homeless man. The man struggled with mental health issues and was living in a dismantled camper with his small dog, Piper. He was kind, helpful, and polite. The group of neighbors knew they could pull together to help him build a stable home on a nearby piece of land. They started a GoFundMe page and raised thousands of dollars to help him.

The nearby land they found that would house the new home and septic system.

When the woman contacted us she was looking for any help getting a septic system. At the time, the man had no running water or electricity. He is highly intelligent and he knew all about the water table and soil on his new piece of land. To build his home he knew he would need a new septic system. One of our project managers, Duane, quickly got to work seeing how we could help get him an affordable system.

After several months of waiting for the rain to calm down and any snow to melt, Duane scheduled the installation. Duane not only lowered the cost of materials to the wholesale price, he and our installation team agreed to donate their time to the project. With Duane, Bob, our most experienced installer, and Dylan, an installer apprentice, Speedy Septic started to install the new system.

After this we installed the drainfield pipes where waste is treated by the surrounding soil once it leaves the septic tank.

On June 27, 2016 Speedy Septic finished the installation. The man was given a new gravity based system that should last decades with regular care. The next step for the man and the group of neighbors is to build a small home on the property. They have already begun cleaning out any remaining brush around the property. Soon the man will have a new home for himself and his dog.

We are proud to give back to the community and help those in need. We wish the best for the new homeowner and his pup, Piper. We proudly thank him and the group of caring neighbors for allowing us to help!

If we can’t have fun at a septic company then who can!?
